“Your Song”

Written by: Elton John & Bernie Taupin

It’s a little bit funny, this feeling inside

But I, I’m not one of those who can easily hide

I, I don’t have much money, but boy if I did

I’d buy a big house where we both could live

If I was a sculptor but, but then again, no

Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show

Oh I know it’s not much but it’s the best I can do

My gift is my song and this one’s for you

And you can tell everybody that this is your song

It may be quite simple but now that it’s done

I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind

That I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I sat on the roof and kicked off the moss

Well a few of the verses, well, they’ve got me quite cross

But the sun’s been kind while I wrote this song

It’s for people like you that, oh keep it turned on

So excuse me forgetting but these things I do

You seen I’ve forgotten if they’re green or they’re blue

Anyway the thing is what I really mean

Yours are the sweetest eyes I’ve ever seen

So you can tell everybody that this is your song

It may be quite simple but now that it’s done

I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind

That I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

I hope you don’t mind, I hope you don’t mind

That I put down in words

How wonderful life is while you’re in the world

ABOUT “YOUR SONG”

  • Bernie Taupin wrote this song. Bernie said he wrote this song one morning while eating breakfast and thinking about “his girl”. If you look at the original, there is even a small stain from scrambled eggs or something on the paper.
  • Although Elton dedicated this song to his fans, it was written for a girl by the boy, Bernie Taupin, that loved her.

A lot of artists have done covers for

“Your Song”

over the years including one of my favorite new artists:

Ellie Goulding

This is one of the sweetest songs that I have ever heard. It is so genuine in emotion, without undertones of any kind; it does a perfect job of capturing “that feeling” that someone can give to you.

I have always loved this song…but when “that special someone” plays and sings it for you…..oh my goodness, it takes on a whole new meaning.

How Do I Know This To Be True?

BECAUSE HE SANG IT TO ME

AND NOW I WANT TO TELL EVERYBODY THAT “THIS IS MY SONG”

Have a fabulous weekend!

xoxo
