Adam Levine has the “Moves Like Jagger.”

BUT in his March 2013, Men’s Health cover shoot, he reveals a whole different set of moves.

 Strength, Focus, Balance

“…and even more of them since 2011 when he took up residence as one of four coaches  in comically over-sized, rotating red chairs on the singing-competition show The Voice, a runaway hit for NBC. A brief hour ago, he was relaxed and goofy, gamely striding through the photographer’s frame, flexing his tattooed arms and flashing muscleman poses. BUT this is different; It’s yoga. And when it comes to yoga, Levine doesn’t mess around.”

-Men’s Health

“Yoga is the union of two Sanskrit concepts: abhyasa and vairagya, focused effort and surrender”

(Loquacious yoga teacher and fitness instructor and Adam’s personal trainer of 5 years)

Assume a yoga asana-even one as simple as the standing straight-leg, feet-together toe touch- and you’ll see what he means.

“Part of you  wants to give up and part of you wants to push further. But if you give up, you won’t make progress, and of you push too hard you’ll hurt yourself.  In yoga, you’re searching for that ever-shifting edge between these two counterproductive extremes.”

Abhyasa- Focused Effort

Before “The Voice,” before Maroon 5, Adam Levine was just a kid who wanted to be a rock star. In the mid 90’s, he started working with voice and performance coach Steven Memel. Memel remembers the days he would receive panicked phone calls from Levine hours before a performance because his voice was a wreck from partying. When talking about Levine’s early potential, Memel is blunt: “He had an intensity about him and a unique quality in his voice.” But he never thought that Adam would become a star.

“If At First You Don’t Succeed, Try, Try Again.”

10 years, a lot of musical experimentation, and one failed album later, Adam Levine hit it big with Maroon 5’s Songs About Jane,” in 2002. The album was personal to Levine; inspired by a recent breakup, but sometimes the best music comes from heartbreak. “Jane” highlighted Levine’s unique voice with an impressingly high expressive register and slick production values. The music was just straight up good music, and provided listener’s with new songs that they could listen to again and again. Harder to Breathe and “This Love” were songs that you could sing along to with friends, while “Sunday Morning” was just a feel good song.

Then there was,“She Will Be Loved.” A song full of emotion; a song where Levine had clearly poured his heart out. I remember being a teenager and hearing it over and over on the radio.

“Jane” went multi-platinum, won Grammy’s, and has sold over 5 million copies in the U.S.

Maroon 5’s latest album, “Overexposed” has become an instant hit featuring the songs “Payphone” and ‘One More Night”

And I’m sure we have all heard, danced, and sang along to “Moves Like Jagger”

What does Levine’s former voice coach have to say?

“He’s learned how to play the stage now. His voice gained flexibility, agility, and nuance from all the touring. Plus there’s an arrogance, which may be neccessary for people to have-or cultivate-to be that successful. (Meant as a compliment) Under the scrutiny of so many eyes and ears, you need a degree of self-possession even to get up in the morning.”

Steve Memel

Adam’s Balancing Act

To say Adam Levine is busy is an understatement.

How Does Adam Find Balance?

“Adam is very driven. He always wanted to jump to the hardest version of the poses, even if he wasn’t ready.” But after after 5 years of dedicated practice, Adam has a whole new attitude. “He’s more patient. He understands that its a process and not a means to an end.”

A Good Yoga Practice

Strikes a balance between executing a thought-out plan and staying flexible, in more ways than one.

Maybe that’s why the ancient art suits him- and ANY MAN driven toward perfection, in the gym or at work. “It’s an arena in which busy guys can slow down, shut out all the voices clamoring for their attention, stop striving for a while- and do a serious workout at the same time.

His patient approach to his yoga practice, like his career, has grown in gradual increments-

one workout, one pose, one breath at a time

and finally culminated in a level of mastery.

Vairagya- Surrender

Not only has yoga allowed the singer to maintain an incredibly toned physique; it’s basic principles can be applied to his personal and professional life.

“I have a hard time sitting still. I can be all over the map. Yoga has given me the ability to be more focused and make better decisions that come from a clearer place.”

-Adam Levine

“There’s a very specific yoga cliche: Eat these foods, wear these clothes, believe only these things,” Levine says. “I don’t want to be that.”

He just knows his yoga practice works for him.

“It’s made me more successful.”

“I love it and don’t know what I’d do without it.”

“Maroon 5 front man Adam Levine is a multitasker; rockstar, budding actor, king of reality TV. How does he hold it all together? With a centered attitude and a crapload of yoga”

-Andrew Heffernan, Men’s Health Magazine

Adam Levine- Hottie of the Week

Details Magazine Cover- June/July 2011

“Some have superstardom thrust upon them. Others earn it the hard way- by revealing their soft sides on reality TV. For the thirty-three year old Maroon 5 Frontman, NBC’s top-rated The Voice did more than provide a massive new audience and a bestie in Blake Shelton; it gave him a last shot at being the King of Pop and he’ll be damned if he blows his chance to be a kinder, gentler Rock God.”

-Craig Marks, Details Magazine

Maroon 5 Frontman, Coach on NBC’s The Voice, Blake Shelton’s BFF

and I’d like to add, One of The Sexiest Men Alive.

Do you remember the first time you heard the song, “She Will Be Loved“? I’m sure we all do. Well that was the breakout song of Maroon 5 on their first album, “Songs About Jane.” An album that Adam has said he was written about his breakup with a girl named Jane. That was the beginning of Adam Levine’s rise to superstardom.

Personally, I’ve always been a Maroon 5 fan and even got to see them in concert a few years ago; Adam was looking especially fine, rocking tight white jeans and a white tee. And unlike some musicians, Adam actually CAN sing, not to mention play guitar; he has collaborated on songs with other musicians like Rihanna, and if you have seen him during the “Blind Auditions” on The Voice (where he, and fellow music entertainers: Cee Lo Green, Xtina, and Blake Shelton sit with the back of their chairs turned as an aspiring musician sings) when he puts his head down, closes his eyes, and just listens, he knows his stuff when it comes to music. You can tell that he has so much passion for music and being a coach on the voice allows him to use his passion and experience to help each individual musician on his team. I think that being on The Voice has allowed viewers and fans to see past the sexy, tattooed, bad boy musician vibe that he gives off. Instead you see a great teacher and coach with a big heart who is truly a nice guy. Recently, on the Ellen DeGeneres show, he defended fellow coach Christina Aguilera when asked about her body and weight issues, telling people to simply leave her alone. Now that’s my kind of guy.

BFF’s Blake & Adam

People Magazine recently featured Adam Levine and fellow coach of The Voice, Blake Shelton on the cover, the headline reading, “The Odd Couple”. Below is an excerpt from the cover story.

Fans of The Voice already know how much fun Blake Shelton and Adam Levine have with each other on the show. But what’s their friendship like in real life?

“A few weeks ago somebody asked me, ‘What about you and Adam’s bromance. Is there anything to it?’ ” Shelton, 35, tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story.

“And I sputtered off, ‘Yeah, I’m going to make out with him.’ The next thing you read is, ‘Blake wants to kiss Adam.’ Man, I can’t believe how …”

“True that is?” interjects Levine, 33…………..How adorable is that?

“There’s two kinds of men. There are men who are f#&king misogynist pigs, and then there are men who just really love women, who think they’re the most amazing people in the world. And that’s me.”

-Adam in Details interview

In addition, to being a talented musician, I also really admire Adam’s style. He can rock a white tee and a leather jacket just as well as he can pull of a sweater, yes I said sweater. Whether performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion show in a tank top, or wearing a suit at the Emmy awards, Adam always manages to look amazing. His good looks and great style do give him an upper hand with the ladies.

Personally, I like him best in a suit or in a plain white tee displaying his tats. What can I say, I have a thing for the bad boy look with the nice guy personality. When I think about it, I can only think of a few guys that I know that fit that description; where’s my Adam Levine?

Until I find my own “Adam Levine”, I’ll have to settle with listening to Maroon 5′s newest album “Overexposed” (Daylight and The Man Who Never Lied are among my favorite songs) and (fingers crossed) hopefully getting to see them on tour in February.

**Stay tuned to find out who is next Friday’s “Hottie of the Week”**

P.S. I’m ending this post with the lyrics to “She Will Be Loved”

She Will Be Loved

Beauty queen of only eighteen
She had some trouble with herself
He was always there to help her
She always belonged to someone else

I drove for miles and miles
And wound up at your door
I’ve had you so many times
But somehow I want more

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

And she will be loved
And she will be loved

Tap on my window knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful
I know I tend to get so insecure
It doesn’t matter anymore

It’s not always rainbows and butterflies
It’s compromise that moves us along, yeah
My heart is full and my door’s always open
You come anytime you want

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
[  From: ]

Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved

I know where you hide alone in your car
Know all of the things that make you who you are
I know that goodbye means nothing at all
Comes back and begs me to catch her every time she falls, yeah

Tap on my window knock on my door
I want to make you feel beautiful

I don’t mind spending every day
Out on your corner in the pouring rain
Look for the girl with the broken smile
Ask her if she wants to stay awhile

And she will be loved
And she will be loved
And she will be loved
(Please don’t try so hard to say goodbye)
And she will be loved

Please don’t try so hard to say goodbye
Please don’t try so hard to say goodbye
(I don’t mind spending every day)
(Out on your corner in the pouring rain)
Please don’t try so hard to say goodbye
