2013 Golden Globes- Who Made the Cut?

“The Passionate Fashionista’s” Fashion Critique of

The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards

Award Season Has Begun!

I watched the Live from the Red Carpet special on E! and was carefully taking notes on trends of the red carpet and making a list of the Best Dressed and Worst Dressed celebrities of the evening; although it was hard to keep up with all of the beautiful gown

In this post, I am going to pretend I am one of the judges on E!’s “Fashion Police and reveal my “Best Dressed” and “Worst Dressed” picks, and ultimately pick  my favorite look of the evening and my least favorite.

There were some dresses that I wasn’t sure if I “liked” or” hated.” I am going to let you make the decision on those dresses.

Best Dressed List

Golden Globe Winner Jennifer Lawrence in Dior Haute Couture

“This is Dior Haute Couture,” she said on the red carpet. “I don’t really know what haute means, but I had to say it.”

Jodie , although the color of this dress does bring out your eyes, you look like a shiny and shimmering blue disco ball and I don’t like what is going on with the straps of the dress. You are a terrific actress and congratulations on receiving the “Lifetime Achievement Award.” Stick to what you know best: acting.

Award Season Kicks Off Tonight…It’s Party Time!

Tonight is the beginning of one of my favorite times of the year…Awards Season!

It all starts with The 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards

And it is hosted by none other than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler; women I actually think are funny…

***Remember Baby Momma***

I am very excited and am looking forward to laughing a lot tonight with the two of them hosting.

Before I get to the nominee’s for tonight’s award show and who I want to win…there is the question of who is this year’s Miss Golden Globe?

Each year, a daughter of a celebrity is chosen to be Miss Golden Globe and assist with handing out the coveted statues. In 1975, Tippi Hedren‘s daughter Melanie Griffith was Miss Golden Globe and in 1982, Laura Dern, the daughter of Dianne Ladd had the honor bestowed upon her.

Below are the most recent Miss Golden Globes

(From Left To Right: Rumer Willis, Mavis Spencer, Gia Mantegna, Rainey Qualley)

Rumer Willis 2009- Daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore

Mavis Spencer 2010- Daughter of Octavia Spencer

(Octavia Spencer is one of 9 actresses to win the Critic’s Choice Award, Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA, and Oscar in the same year for her role as “Minnie” in The Help)

Gia Mantegna 2011- Daughter of Joe Mantegna

Rainey Qualley 2012- Daughter of Andie MacDowell

Meet Miss Golden Globe 2013

Francesca Eastwood

She is the 19 year old daughter of Clint Eastwood and Frances Fischer

Her half sister Kathryn, was Miss Golden Globe in 2005

Kathryn Eastwood

(daughter of Clint Eastwood and flight attendant Jacelyn Reeves)

As excited as I am to see what the stars are wearing tonight on the red carpet, I’m also excited to see which celebrities will go home with a Globe.

(Don’t worry, tomorrow I am going pretend that I am apart of E!’s “Fashion Police and critique the best and worst dressed of the night)

2013 Golden Globes Nominees List

 My Predictions

Best Motion Picture, Drama

Best Performance by an Actor — Drama
From his transformation into his character, to his perfection of Lincoln’s “Kentucky” twang accent, Lewis is a sure thing.
Denzel Washington was also nominated in this category for his role in “Flight” which I have yet to see but I consider Washington a fabulous actor

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama

 Jessisca Chastain- Zero Dark Thirty
 Naomi Watts- The Impossible
 Marion Cotillard “Rust and Bone”
Although I have not seen either of these movies, I am rooting for Jessica Chastain. Chastain stars as “Maya” in “Zero Dark Thirty “, a chronicle of the decade-long hunt for al-Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden after the September 2001 attacks, and his death at the hands of the Navy S.E.A.L. Team 6 in May, 2011. –IMBD
Naomi Watts delivers her most emotional performance yet, writes Jane Cornwell. “The Impossible” is based on the true story of a family caught up in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. –The Telegraph
But Cotillard has never given a finer performance as a woman who loses her legs in a tragic accident. “It’s really about her relationship to her body,” Cotillard told CNN. “Before, she was empty, because she didn’t enjoy her life. And after, she had to learn to live again. She has a fuller life without legs. It’s an unconventional love story.”
I will have to check out all 3 actresses performances in these movies.

Best Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical

Silver Linings Playbook

Bradley Cooper

Jennifer Lawrence

enough said…

Best Actress in a Motion Picture, Comedy or Musical

Jennifer Lawrence, “Silver Linings Playbook”

It seems like every year,  Meryl Streep’s name is on this list.

Sorry Meryl, but this award should go to Jennifer Lawrence for “Silver Linings Playbook”

Her role in this movie as a young widow is far from Katniss Everdreen but she and Bradley Cooper are supposed to be a hit in this dark comedy

Best Performance by an Actor — Comedy or Musical

If only the great comedians didn’t have to go up against the great musical performers, because there’s only one leading man in this category who’s both funny and sings: Jack Black for “Bernie.” –CNN.com

Hugh Jackman will win for his portrayal of Jean Valjean, but the most truly insane performance of the year belongs to Bradley Cooper.

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Anne Hathaway, “Les Miserables”

Again, like Daniel Day Lewis, Anne Hathaway is a shoe-in to win this award. I don’t like musicals so I do not plan on seeing this movie but I  heard that Anne’s performance is sub-par and Hugh Jackman basically “made” the movie

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture

Tommy Lee Jones, “Lincoln”

Philip Seymour Hoffman, “The Master”

I’ll admit, I do not know much about this category and the nominees…but according to CNN.com

Jones is the clear favorite for his portrayal of Thaddeus Stevens, with Hoffman not far behind as the charismatic leader of a cult.

WINNER- Christopher Waltz for “Django Unchained”

Best Director – Motion Picture

Hard catergory but my front runner is “Ben Affleck”, “Argo:”

I have been meaning to see “Argo” but it is a unique true story that I have heard many good things about and not only did Ben Affleck direct Argo but he starred in the movie too.

Apparently, Steven Speilberg is supposed to win for “Lincoln” but I’m rooting for the under-dog

Honorable mentions would be:

Kathryn Bigelow for “Zero Dark Thirty”; she was the first female to win the Best Director Award for “The Hurt Locker”

I am also a fan of Ang Lee’s work; he is a fellow award winner for directing “Brokeback Mountain”

Best original song

Taylor Swift (“Safe & Sound,” from “The Hunger Games”) and Adele (“Skyfall,” from “Skyfall”) are up against the “Les Miserables” juggernaut, which has a new original song in “Suddenly.”

“Skyfall” is my pick for best original song

But if Taylor Swift wins for ” Safe & Sound” from“The Hunger Games,” it won’t be a total disappointment

As for Television Shows and Mini-Series, nothing beats the Movies so I chose just to include them.

Airs Live Tonight at 8ET/5 PT

If you have a favorite best dressed actor or actress of the night, please comment and I will make sure they are included in my “Fashion At The Globes” post tomorrow.
